Controls Engineer

Summary:

The role of Controls Engineer combines technical skills to design, document, and/or program building automation systems (BASs) in compliance with project plans and specifications. Proactive communication with all internal and external stakeholders for requests for information (RFIs) and risk assessment is imperative.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Documentation of the BAS design (i.e. submittals) and revision control of the resultant documents
  • Site-specific configuration of the Siemens Product Line
  • Programming of control algorithms including those that include third-party integration
  • Development of graphical interfaces for building automation systems
  • Testing of programming and interfaces prior to deployment
  • Final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since issuance of the submittal
  • Adherence to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation
  • Timely creation of requests for information (RFIs)
  • Adherence to safety standards. High degree of regard for employee and subcontractor safety
  • Adherence to all company and client standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience in the HVAC controls industry (Minimum Requirement)
  • 5+ years’ experience in the HVAC controls industry. (Preferred)
  • Proficient with primary functions of BAS software and associated engineering tools (Siemens tools preferred)
  • Competency with Microsoft software including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Understands electrical and mechanical building systems
  • Able to interpret plans (including architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints), specifications, and contract documents to deliver compliant and optimized designs
  • Request clarifications to technical or scope information via a formal RFI process
  • Familiarity with third-party communication protocols used in building automation (e.g. BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, etc.)
  • Able to design integrations with the same
  • Aptitude for problem solving even when troubleshooting systems
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Possess and maintain valid and current form of government issued identification
  • Ability to report to assigned work location reliably
  • Write, analyze and modify sequences of operations for HVAC equipment
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of BMS hardware, peripherals, add-ons, and services

Controls Specialist

Summary:

The role of Controls Specialist is to provide expertise and knowledge throughout the system or service project lifecycle on customer sites. As a Controls Specialist, you will track, start-up, and commission projects, and will be the customer interface for all technical requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attending project kick-off meetings to gain knowledge of the sales estimate and project scope
  • Possess a strong understanding of the operation and control of mechanical equipment and their control sequences
  • Possess computer and networking skills to properly maintain their laptops and mobile devices
  • Responsible for system installation/operation from controllers to sensors, loading software, set up trends, alarms and reports and working with IT personnel
  • Use of basic electronic test equipment, such as multi-meters, network terminals and/ or a laptop computer
  • Responsible for setup of operator workstations with all associated software
  • Perform commissioning of software programming
  • Perform site-specific training for owner/operator
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs/modifications to complex BMS control systems
  • Possess knowledge of multiple manufacturers controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software
  • Start up and commission customer BMS systems
  • Complete all required commissioning documentation
  • Maintains accurate As-Built drawings and marks changes
  • Work with subcontractors and other trades as needed to ensure proper operation
  • Coordinate needs with the project team. Identify time-sensitive installation needs
  • Manage the requisition of supplies and materials to complete projects
  • Troubleshoot issues, including identifying and debugging software, and diagnosing electrical installation problems
  • Organize and maintain jobsite documentation
  • Provide installation, start-up, checkout, commissioning, and validation work
  • Participate in job site final walk-through and complete all job closeout documentation
  • Act as a technical resource to customers and field employees
  • Coordinate work with subcontractors

Sales Engineer (Building Automation & Controls)

Summary:

The role of Sales Engineer for our Building Automation & Controls Division combines technical skills, sales experience, and passion for customers. We are seeking a high-energy, motivated technical sales professional to promote innovative solutions for current and potential customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow assigned territory or group of accounts through the sales of Sander’s building automation and mechanical product offerings
  • Achieve annual sales and gross margin targets
  • Develop and maintain lasting relationships with new and existing customers
  • Become a trusted advisor and consultant to building owners, contractors and business partners
  • Create project estimates and proposals to promote all of Sander Mechanical Service’s product offerings
  • Use all available sales tools track and document all ongoing sales opportunities
  • Collaborate with all Sander Mechanical staff to provide the customer with the best possible experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business Management
  • 3+ years of experience with industrial controls, HVAC controls, building automation, or commercial HVAC equipment
  • 1+ year of Salesforce.com or CRM experience
  • Building Automation and/or HVAC Controls Sales experience preferred with demonstrable knowledge in DDC control theory and HVAC systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with customers at all levels, both on a technical and business basis
  • Proven ability to influence customers’ key decision-makers
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Mechanical Estimator

Summary:

Sander Mechanical, a full-service mechanical contractor (serving New Jersey, southern New York, and eastern Pennsylvania), is seeking motivated candidates for the position of Mechanical Estimator, who want to advance their careers with a dynamic and growing company. The candidate should have ample familiarity in estimating Mechanical / Plumbing / HVAC projects for commercial and industrial facilities, including piping, sheet metal, chilled water systems, boiler plants (hot water and steam systems), packaged rooftop equipment, VAV systems, VRF systems, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the search and selection of project opportunities for bidding
  • Attend pre-bid meetings; and review plans and specifications for competitive environment and determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Develop and provide complete, accurate and timely detailed estimates representing a projects mechanical system costs, associated general conditions, and required overhead and profit
  • Apply labor factors, establish general conditions and define site logistics cost components into the overall estimate cost basis
  • Use Quick Pen Auto Bid Mechanical Estimating software to do quantified take-offs in a hard bid environment
  • Provide estimating support for not only plan/spec, but also design assist, and design-build delivery methods
  • Solicit subcontractor bids and vendor quotes / Locate, notify and send bid information to subcontractors and vendors for quotations on outsourced work
  • Evaluate bids of subcontractors and vendors for completeness of scope of work, schedule, compliance with specifications, and other bid requirements. Negotiate pricing
  • Perform layout and sizing of duct work, piping, and plumbing systems as required to provide a complete system for estimating purposes when documents are not complete
  • Ensure accuracy of estimates
  • Compile and finalize the estimate within time deadline and participate in team reviews with management prior to bid day
  • Develop the scope of work narrative and generate proposal documents; structure estimates and set up fee models to support the unique project RFP language, defining costs components accordingly
  • Recommend value engineering cost saving items where appropriate. Prepare value engineering analysis in anticipation of the customer’s best interest
  • Develop strong relationships with clients, general contractors, vendors and suppliers
  • Lead and/or participate in discussions and meetings with owner, general contractor, architect, engineers, subcontractors, vendors and management
  • Provide timely constructive feedback to direct supervisor regarding project bid status, risks and concerns
  • Effectively communicate the estimate product approach and deliverable to respective Sander Mechanical team members; build relationships with Sander’s project management team to enhance integration of best practices into estimates
  • Review and assess production feedback to incorporate into Sander’s estimating approach

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in HVAC/mechanical estimating for both design-build and plan/spec construction projects
  • Demonstrate experience in estimating past projects sizes up to $5 million
  • Ability to read architectural, structural and mechanical plan and be familiar with a variety of HVAC systems and terminology
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including CAD drawings, Sketches, Specifications, Submittals, etc.
  • Candidates must be detail-oriented with strong memory
  • Individual shall be dedicated, self-motivated with good verbal and people skills
  • Must be able to prioritize and work both independently as well as in a team atmosphere
  • Demonstrate experience in estimating in a hard bid market
  • Ability to effectively interact with customers, field personnel, sales and office staff
  • Possess a sense of urgency in completing assignments
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook required
  • Strong working knowledge of Quickpen estimating software preferred
  • Four-year mechanical engineering or similar degree is preferred
  • Ability to consistently set goals and meet deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to flexible responsibilities
  • Ability to manage personnel in the field and manage projects is also a plus

HVAC Service Technician

Summary:

Sander Mechanical is seeking qualified HVAC Service Technicians who want to advance their careers with a dynamic and growing company. Must possess the skills and discipline to work independently, and exhibit proficiency in servicing, troubleshooting, installation, cleaning and maintenance service of heating and cooling equipment and related products. Technician should have a good understanding of ductwork, installation practices, and air flow. Must know how to troubleshoot, service, and repair all HVAC makes and models, including gas furnaces, boilers, water source heat pumps, rooftop package units, mini splits, fan coils, heat pumps, condensers, air handlers and more. Technician is expected to be able to run, test, diagnose, and isolate problems; replace parts for heating and cooling systems; and perform other tasks as necessary. Must be able to work with a high degree of integrity, handle customer interaction, and promote a positive image for the company. Excel within a team environment, and be willing to support all areas of our business. Willing to participate as needed on HVAC installation and other mechanical construction projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organizes work by studying work orders, diagrams, specifications, drawings, and blueprints; gathering required materials.
  • Installation and maintenance of HVAC/environmental systems — mounting, installing, fabricating, or connecting compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, expansion and discharge values, motors, temperature and humidity controls, fans, control panels, switches, fuses, filters, gauges, ducts, piping, tubing, and related components; completes power connections
  • Tests and repairs HVAC/environmental systems by operating the systems; identifying malfunctions; repairing or replacing sealants, parts, and components
  • Keeps tools and equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; generating follow up requests for repairs
  • Documents actions by completing equipment records and electronic service tickets (via iPad)
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal/environmental regulations
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
  • Accomplishes maintenance tasks and generates follow up requests for quoted repairs

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years HVAC field experience
  • Knowledgeable with all types/makes/models of HVAC Systems
